I was curious about my inability to address the Master-Spanks-Caleb scene in the recent past, and I think I’ve got it figured out.

While poking around on Amazon, today, I came across Over The Knee (Nexus Enthusiast). Since the cover art featured a young woman turned over someone’s knee(s), I figured it probably either was an entire novel about someone/people who enjoyed spanking or a bunch of spanking-themed short stories. It turned out that it’s the former, which is okay; what really caught my eye was the following from the very very short editorial review/book description:

As Nexus Enthusiast publishes convincing and exciting literature, written by the devotee of a fetish for the large number of enthusiasts, the author is a fully qualified and active participant of the S&M scene.

Which leads me to wonder: how -does- one become a “fully qualified” participant of the S&M scene? Is it like studying for the bar? Or perhaps it’s more like getting your food-handler’s license? Can, or do, you ask to see someone’s diploma or other proof of qualification before you let them tie you up?

Pfffff. *waves a hand* I know that Nexus is trying to say that their authors know a couple of things about their subjects, whether it’s spanking or the Japanese version of bondage involving elaborate and excessive amounts of rope, but _really_. They could have asked one of those same authors to help them say it in a better way.

…Unless of course they _did_. In which case, I will have to be very sad and avoid that author like the plague.
